"Life with Bluebell" and Other Stories from an Animal
Orphanage by Pauline Kidner
Pauline Kidner lives on a small dairy farm in Somerset,
surrounded by the wild animals which she has rescued and cared for over the
years. A family of badgers lives beside the milk parlour, there are foxes in
the tractor shed, the mink has a hut beside the front door, and there is a
barn owl who once spent the night in a central London police cell. In
particular, there is Bluebell the sow badger, who appears with Pauline on
the front cover of her book, and who is her favourite among the many animals
and birds she has looked after. Each chapter is devoted to a particular
family of animals, which are all described with humour and anecdote. The
Kidners' farm is also the Somerset Levels Visitor Centre.
